Tridel Debuts Latest Innovation Suite, Ushering in the Future of Sustainable Living
Tridel, Canada’s leading condominium developer, is pleased to unveil its most eco-friendly condominium suite, a self-powered residence located at The Well’s Classic Series II property in the heart of downtown Toronto.
December 10, 2024 (TORONTO) – As part of Tridel’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainability, the Current Suite features cleantech innovations that optimize energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions while promoting health and wellness. Located at 480 Front Street, the 1,080 square-foot suite also offers a sleek, contemporary design with a distinctive floorplan and on-demand conveniences.
“Tridel is committed to re-imagining residential spaces through our Innovation Suites in ways that benefit people and the planet,” says Graeme Armster, Director of Innovation and Sustainability at Tridel. "Shifting away from conventional technologies in favour of smart cleantech systems not only allows us to mitigate operational and embodied emissions but also enhance resident comfort and accessibility.”
Upon entering the Current Suite, residents are immersed in a livable and responsive space, featuring state-of-the-art, self-regulating technologies easily tailored to individual preferences. Best of all, the extensive in-suite amenities are powered by the Current Suite’s balcony railing integrated solar panels and battery storage system, which can deliver up to 10 hours of reliable power during grid outages for added protection. Uniquely, it also directly feeds DC power lighting, HVAC and other devices straight from the solar panels, bypassing the inverter to eliminate inefficient DC to AC power conversions.
The suite’s innovative technologies include:
A programmable smart thermostat and modern, multi-flow HVAC fan coils that improve fan, heating and cooling efficiency
Customizable LED fixtures capable of matching ambient lighting to natural circadian rhythms
Low-voltage step heat flooring that enhance indoor comfort
Additionally, the suite utilizes a water-based, GreenGuard Gold Certified, non-toxic, and sustainable acrylic sealant reducing exterior air leakage by 50% and further minimizing energy loss, moisture, sound, and odor infiltration. Building on these health and wellness benefits, the Current Suite also features a demand-based air filter and energy recovery ventilator (ERV) to protect against ambient indoor pollutants.
The Current Suite’s kitchen — thoughtfully located where the den would normally be to create a more open and versatile common space — includes a ventless range hood and charcoal filter, optimizing space utilization by eliminating the need for exterior venting. Additionally, elegant glass pocket doors allow the kitchen to easily blend into the primary living space, ensuring a harmonious connection between the two rooms.
Neatly tucked behind the stunning full bath, the laundry room also boasts the latest cleantech has to offer, with a remotely programmable smart electric water heater, a heat pump dryer that utilizes ambient air to dry clothing, and a wastewater heat recovery pipe that captures and repurposes thermal energy from sanitary drainage, significantly enhancing overall energy efficiency.
In addition to its bold cleantech offerings, Tridel’s latest Innovation Suite maintains a sharp focus on contemporary and functional design. Alongside its intelligently re-located kitchen, the Current Suite incorporates a variety of architectural details aimed at maximizing space and enhancing resident comfort. In the two bedrooms, built-in beds, side tables, and closets increase livability and reduce the need for hallway space. In the primary bath, a reduced shower curb enhances accessibility to support aging-in-place. Ceiling coves throughout the suite offer a stylish aesthetic.
“The demand for sustainable living spaces that leverage the power, convenience, and accessibility of technology has dramatically increased in recent years, and we’re committed to meeting the moment with bold and thoughtful compositions” says Jim Ritchie, President, Tridel Group of Companies. "Our latest Innovation Suite is a truly bold step forward — not only in sustainability, but also health and wellness, convenience, accessibility, and cost-efficiency — and we are delighted to offer residents a comfortable blend of luxury and functionality."
